The objective of the RESTORE+ Kick-Off workshop was to introduce the RESTORE+ project approach, the planned activities and expected results. Panel discussions and parallel sessions allowed a broad range of stakeholders to discuss concerns over restoration of degraded land. In addition the workshop was essential for gathering feedback and input for internal consolidation on planned activities and detailed work plan.
The three day workshop was opened with welcoming remarks by Pavel Kabat (Director General/ CEO of IIASA), followed by remarks from the Brazilian Embassy, H. E. Ricardo Neiva Tavares (Ambassador of Brazil for Austria), from the Ministry of National Development Planning of Indonesia, Gellwyn Jusuf (Deputy Minister for Maritime and Natural Resources) and remarks from BMU-IKI, Ruth Irlen (Policy Officer for Forest Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management.
The discussions between project partners, RESTORE+ advisory board members and the BMUB-IKI representative helped identify necessary minor modifications to the planned activities. Whilst not representing major deviations from the initial plans, these modifications are important in ensuring project goals are achieved.
