RESTORE+ consultation meeting in Indonesia

RESTORE+ organized a workshop to consult relevant stakeholders on planned approaches to assess landscape restoration options that will generate spatial data and quantitative information for policy makers. The event aimed at building common understanding on sustainable landscape restoration planning in Indonesia and seeked synergy between the RESTORE+ project with similar on-going or planned projects.

The RESTORE+ team organized a consultation workshop which took place on 28 November in JS Luwansa Hotel, Jakarta. Relevant stakeholders that were invited to participate in the event included representatives of national and sub-national governments, CSOs, private sector, donor organizations, as well as provincial and district/kabupaten level stakeholders.
The workshop was divided into three parts; a panel discussion, two presentation sessions and two in-depth break-out sessions. The discussions revolved around restoration policy background and two central questions: 1) How to identify potential areas for restoration? And 2) What to expect from restoration activities?
Presentation sessions and the two parallel in-depth sessions discussed the topics in detail. The discussions vitally shaped and informed on subsequent RESTORE+ activities, related to the broader land use change modelling, the mapping and crowdsourcing of potential restoration areas and other related assessment activities. In the end this helped to sharpen the focus on feasible opportunities of degraded/marginal land restoration and utilization to ease pressures for deforestation.
